If you are looking to make money fast, you might want to think about trying eBay. I apologize if this article seems somewhat basic, but essentially, its focus is towards those who are just starting out on eBay. Regardless of whether you are selling DVDs, books, CDs, collectibles, clothing, health products, etc., all of these items need to be shipped.

This is the one thing which gives eBay newbies anxiety attacks. With the ease of shipping nowadays in the free market, there is no need for this. Nonetheless, there are a few rules which you should follow regarding shipping.

By this stage of your eBay experience, you may have heard that advice, "Do not overcharge for shipping." This is one of the most important pieces of advice for new eBayers. Nothing turns off potential buyers like a seller who is attempting to gain a profit on shipping charges.

However, you should not be so concerned about charging too much for shipping, that you suffer a deficit. Keep in mind that there are hidden costs in shipping, such as packaging, tape, fuel costs, your time, etc. These things do add up. Therefore, it is not unreasonable to add a moderate handling charge along with the actual cost of shipping.

Another problem which is a frequent occurrence is the underestimation of the package's weight. If you make this mistake, you will cut directly into your profits.

With this in mind, how can you be fair to both yourself, and your buyers?

1.  Use a scale. While this may sound trivial, purchasing a scale can save you a lot in underestimated shipping expenses.  If you are simply estimating the weight of the package, you can often times guess too low, and be in for quite a shock when you go to the post office and see the package is going to cost twice what you thought to ship.

2.  Know the dimensions of your packaging before listing the item.  Some packages cost more to ship due to their dimensions.  Simply knowing the weight is not always enough.

3.  Offer buyers a variety of shipping methods. Some buyers like having the option of paying a little extra to have their package expedited, while others are willing the wait longer and save some money. Always make sure that you are up front about shipping methods and costs. This is one of the first thing that buyers look for.

4.  If you can save money and minimize shipping costs by using flat rate shipping, make sure that you do so. If you cannot use a flat rate box, save yourself some money and be eco-friendly by using boxes which have been previously used. However, keep in mind that the box must be sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of shipping. Also make sure that you save bubble wrap or styrofoam which you receive in any packages which have been shipped to you so that you can reuse them.

5.  Give yourself a nominal handling fee which will cover your expenses.  It is not uncommon for sellers to add an additional $1 or $2 to the stated shipping cost to cover your handling fees. for their handling fees. I really advocate doing. If you do not, your expenses will add up over time, cutting into your profits each time. Make sure that you are are upfront with buyers regarding this handling fee so that they understand why the charged shipping costs, are higher than the actual shipping costs.

If you follow these steps, although the money is not great, you can make money fast on eBay.

Zero Cost. Zero Obligation.
