Thus, if you are an affiliate marketer for example, the affiliate program which are are promoting gave you a URL which is specific to you. Once a sale is made through your URL, you are paid a commission. However, there is a chance that you may be paying as much as you are making in commission in lead generation. Therefore, while affiliate marketing is a great business, you may fail to see a profit.

 

 

2.  Using someone else's e-mail lists to advertise your business is a waste of money. First of all, you do not know who you are e-mailing and why they are on that list in the first place. Secondly, people are so desensitized to incoming e-mails nowadays due to the fact that they are bombarded by e-mails daily that such e-mails have a low readership rate. Thirdly, spam filters have gotten to be so good that many of these advertisements go straight to the spam folder.   

 

3.  Buying lead packages is usually fruitless. While many companies advertise targeted leads, the problem is that they sell them over and over again. If you want to purchase leads which are exclusive to you, be prepared to be sticker shocked. They are extremely expensive. Moreover, if after you purchase the lead they are unresponsive, you have now lost your entire investment in this lead. Your ROI ends up being a waste of time, money, and effort.

 

 

 

Argument For Generating Your Own Leads

Essentially, a lead capture, often referred to as an opt-in page, is a web page with an offer, and a form where a person can opt-in to receive further information by entering their e-mail address. Once the prospect inserts their name, they are taken to another page. The page is usually either a thank you page, or a download page. At this point, the prospect is officially on your e-mail list, and has given you permission to e-mail them in the future. The prospect is interested in what you are selling.

 

The offer in your opt-in page should be something appealing, with a perceived value to give your prospect a good reason to opt-in to your list. Your opt-in form should have fill boxes to let the prospect input his name and email address or more information depending on what your business is about. Once you have captured the prospect's name and email address, where does the information go? Your opt-in page and form should be tied in with an autoresponder system. The autoresponder system takes care of the mechanics.

 

Once your e-mail list starts growing, it is your responsibility to keep your prospects interested in making future purchases. You can do this by providing your prospects with free useful information about how they will benefit somehow with your products and services.
