Ways To Make Money By Targeting Your Market

Often times people already engaged in an online business are still looking for new ways to make money. My suggestion to these people is that they focus on their current business, and just become more efficient.

When it comes to making money online, your first priority should be to identify your prototypical customer. In other words, when presented with what your business has to offer, who will be most interested in what your home business has to offer. Doing so will enable you to identify your target market, and avoid the waste and expense of blanket marketing. For an online business with a small budget, this is an essential exercise which will greatly enhance your probabilities for survival.

Way back in the 1990's, when the Internet market share was up for grabs, huge corporations such as America Online (AOL), could afford to blanket market their services to the general population because: a) They had the money to do so; and b) The market was up for grabs. Of course, the vast majority of their CDs ended up in the garbage. However, for them, it was worth it at the time to try to corner an emerging market.

With regards to your online business, you more than likely cannot afford to expend tens of thousands of marketing dollars all over the internet. Therefore, you need to identify your target market, and focus your marketing efforts on this group.

Ask yourself the following:

  • Who actually NEEDS what you have to offer? For example, if your online business sells weight loss products, then your primary target marketing should be directed to those who perhaps need to lose weight, such as diabetics, or people with hypertension.
  • Who WANTS what I have to offer? In the same example, those who are simply not happy with their current weight may not actually need what your online business offers, but probably want it.

Next, look at your current customers. Who are they? Where do they live? Are they primarily male of female? How did they find out about you? Do they spend a lot of time surfing the web? By asking your current customers these questions and more  for example, what they like about your home business and what they think would benefit from change you will more easily narrow down your target marketing audience, find them online, and market your home business to them.

Thus by identifying who both needs and wants your products, you will be able to increase the profit margin of your existing business, and will not have to keep on looking for new ways to make money.

Zero Cost. Zero Obligation.
